Lucknow, Feb one (PTI) Close on the heels of the formation of a separate Shia Muslim Personal Law Board in India, a group of Muslim women formed an All India Muslim Women's Personal Law Board in order to protect their rights.
In a joint statement here Tuesday, President of the newly constituted board Shaista Amber and general secretary Parveen Abdi said they were forced to set up a separate body as the rights of Muslim women in the country were being ignored.
The representation of women, who are about half the country's Muslim population, on the various Muslim personal law boards has so far been negligible," the statement said.
