Heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. has promised to reduce its global greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2010.
The pledge is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders Greenhouse Gas program, which the company joined in 2003.
The company has already cut greenhouse gas emissions by 450,000 metric tons between 1990 and 2001 through fuel switching, process changes and energy conservation programs, Caterpillar President Douglas Oberhelman said.
