Feb. 3--A committee of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks on Wednesday recommended approval of preliminary plans for renovating parts of the historic Three Arts Club in the Gold Coast neighborhood.
The permit review committee examined drawings produced by architects from Holabird & Root, the successor to the firm of the building's original designer, John Holabird.
The plans would be part of a $17 million renovation of the four-story building, which opened in 1914 and served as an enclave for women artists for more than 90 years. The residence was closed in June 2004 to make way for the renovation.
