Studios fight for shelf space.(News)

Shelf space at retail--that's the name of the DVD game these days, according to studio panelists speaking at two events during last week's Entertainment Media Expo conference in Hollywood, especially in light of the crowded fourth quarter ahead.

"It really is all about space at retail, and more and more it's about understanding the demographics of space at retail," said David Bishop, president and COO of MGM Home Entertainment.

"That's probably the biggest problem everyone faces right now--how do you get your title noticed?," said Tom Adams, president of Adams Media Research. Part of that involves securing the right street date early enough to thwart the competition.
