Bruce Stoeber has spent nearly 30 years on the front lines, fighting fires and responding to emergencies in Glendale. He's a half-century old and knows nothing else.

Last week, he was fired by the city of Glendale, a small enclave surrounded by the city of Denver, after he failed to pass the Denver Fire Department's "suitability" test. He was among three Glendale firefighters who won't be making the move to Denver - despite claims that the city would do its best to absorb Glendale's 27 firefighters as a part of a deal to merge the two departments.
