ORANGE, Calif.--Bergen Brunswig Corp. has proposed to pay about $317 million to shareholders of Durr-Fillauer Medical Inc., in what is shaping up to be a bidding contest for the Montgomery, Ala.-based drug wholesaler.
In early July Bergen Brunswig, the nation's second-largest drug wholesaler, announced its offer of $26 for each of Durr-Fillauer's approximately 12.4 million shares. (In the wake of Bergen Brunswig's announcement, the price of Durr-Fillauer stock surged past the offered $26 per share.) Together with an assumption of debt, the total value of the transaction, according to a company spokesman, would be approximately $365 million.
