JOHN MAJOR yesterday hit out at Tony Blair's spin doctor Alastair Campbell over a crude attempt to smear him by claiming he tried to hide the truth about Black Wednesday in 1992.

The former Prime Minister criticised Mr Campbell and New Labour 'spin, smear and sleaze' after The Times newspaper claimed that Mr Major tried to block moves under the Freedom of Information Act to release new details about Black Wednesday, when Sterling crashed out of Europe's Exchange Rate Mechanism.
