Tests show that the world's most famous impotence drug appears to protect the heart muscle against further damage, which could help victims make a better recovery.

The little blue pill works by stopping vital heart muscle cells from killing themselves in the wake of a heart attack.

This process, known as apoptosis, is one of the major reasons why some heart attack victims are unable to live a normal life.

Researchers believe Viagra could even reverse the decline in heart cells in some people.
