Australia's new Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has demanded the resignation of a government minister. He said Jim Lloyd, the Liberal-National coalition's Local Government Minister, should be dismissed over allegations that he conspired with Wyong Council to keep quiet about heavy rain unclogging the silted Tumbi Creek. Lloyd's special adviser Graeme Hallett is alleged to have said stakeholders should "keep their counsel", if they wanted a promised $A1.5 million grant to clear the creek. Prime Minister John Howard said he accepted Lloyd's explanation.
