Nina and Lily stopped at Sam's bedroom door and looked inside. Not one inch of floor was showing.
Clothes lay in piles. Stacks of papers and books teetered, ready to fall. A half-finished model bridge sat in a corner. The rest was a mess of candy wrappers, trading cards, and pennies.
Nina wrinkled her nose. "Are you sure there wasn't a burglary?"
"Now do you see why I need a detective?" asked Sam.
Nina loved to solve mysteries, but she knew this would be a tough case.
Lily looked at the room and groaned. "Please, you have to find it," she said. "My report on China is due tomorrow. The abacus was my best prop."
