Avril Lavigne (luh-VEEN) burst onto the music scene in 2002 with her hit "Complicated." Her debut album, Let Go, showed the world that she was going to do things her way. She was not about to pretend to be someone else.

She had no desire to become a pop star. She never wanted to be a Britney Spears clone. She doesn't wear skimpy outfits and hop around onstage. In concert, Avril prefers to wear jeans, a T-shirt, and sometimes a tie. Some people say she looks like a punk. She doesn't care.
