Australia's Rural Press lifted net profit 39% in the 2004-05 first half to a record $A58.4 million. Investors welcomed the result on 10 February 205 by adding $A0.31 to Rural's share price, which closed at $A10.70. Revenue was up by 17% at $A294.5 million. Rural Press chairman John B Fairfax said 9% growth in advertising volume in the company's stable of newspapers had helped drive the result. Rural Press also has radio interests, including Ipswich-based station River 94.9FM.
