They want to import garbage from the Northeast U.S.
From the depths of poverty, Jefferson County sees hope in a for-profit landfill that officials claim could bring in millions each year. But before the county starts counting its cash, a heap of questions remains to be answered.
"It's $30,000 a month guaranteed ... plus tonnage. That's a chunk of change," said Natchez lawyer Sam Gwin, who is representing the county supervisors. "It's a dream come true for a rural county like Jefferson County."
