Malachy McCourt admits that he's no historian.
He's a story-teller, and he believes that the best way to teach history is through the stories of the people who made it - whether rooted in fact or legend.
That's why he wrote "Malachy McCourt's History of Ireland" (Running Press, $19.95). The book offers a thumb-nail sketch of Irish history by profiling its most famous personalities.
Rather than citing historical sources, McCourt may begin an anecdote with a simple, "tradition records," or "A man I know tells a story..."
