American corporate spending on information technology is expected to increase 7% in 2005, following a 5% rise in 2004.
Nationally, spending will mostly be for software upgrades, disaster recovery, regulatory compliance and security systems, according to Forrester Research Inc., a technology research firm based in Cambridge, Mass.
But none of the four Chicago technology executives we spoke to plans to increase their budgets at the national rate. Several say they want to spend less this year than in 2004.
