It is well known that three important events happened in the year 1492: the fall of Granada, the last Moslem territory in the Iberian peninsula, to the Spanish Latin Christian monarchy; the expulsion of the professing members of the Jewish religious community; and the first transatlantic voyage of Christopher Columbus. The deadline for exodus of the Jews and the beginning of the Columbian voyage occurred only one day apart. Granada fell half a year earlier. Five hundred years later it is worth contemplating the historical significance of these events and their possible meaning.
