For the 2004 sockeye season, the Area C gillnet fishing was a disaster and fishing in the month of June was a cruel joke to commercial fisherman. Large amounts of algae and the lack of sockeye played a major part in our salmon season.
We had one fish collector who tried to lower the prices on our sockeye during chum season--what an insult to the British Columbia fishermen. This is one person who should get a new line of work, because what he tried to do shows he's been in this too long.
Why is it the British Columbia coast has just enough sockeye to spawn? For the past few years we've met the required escapement, but there isn't enough sockeye to catch. ...
