The new Northern Bay 38 from Downeast Boats & Composites in Penobscot, Maine, has pretty well taken over the boatshop's order book. Several kit boats are heading to commercial fishermen in Maine, Massachusetts and New York.
Downeast Boats g Composites is also completing 38-foot hulls for Maine lobstermen. This past fall, a completed boat, the Miss Maddison, went to Leroy Bridges, a fisherman from nearby Deer Isle. She has a 410-hp Sisu diesel that gives her speeds over 35 mph.
The same engine is in another 38-footer that the boatyard is building for Bruce Fernald, a lobsterman from Islesford. Fernald's boat is expected to go in the water in March, which ...
