The Association of Wheat Flour Producers (Aptindo) said its members have increased wheat flour production by 20% to meet growing demand ahead of the religious holyday celebration--Idulfitri, Christmas and New Year. The decision was based on experience in the past years.
The producers have no difficulty in raising the production as they still have large idle capacity. In the past several years they have operated only at 60% of their installed capacity.
Last year, wheat flour requirement during the religious holidays totaled around 250,000 to 300,000 tons a month. Normally the monthly consumption is 200,000 tons.
