Q: I measured my square baking pan and it is 7 and three-fourth inches on each side instead of the standard 8 inches. What adjustments should I make in cake recipes? _ L.R., Akron, Ohio.
A: An engineer could probably figure that out for you with quadratic equations, but what's the point? The difference in the size of your baking pan from a standard pan is so slight that the effect on the volume of batter and baking time would be minimal.
