Many years ago, I came across a collection of LPs by a musician that I knew nothing about but who swung as tight as La Sonora Matancera combined with the piano chops of Ricardo Ray. I later found out that the leader, Lucho Macedo, was the pianist, but that's where it all ended. I played many of his guarachas at many of my club gigs. Years later, I met Lucho in the rarest of places, while conducting a promotional visit to Canada. We spoke at length and I learned about his roots and wrote about it for La Nación and El Especial newspapers in New Jersey. To this date, Lucho still makes visits to Toronto!
