The alacrity with which Paul Martin and his Liberal colleagues (in both parliament and the courts) are leading Canadians over the marriage abyss recalls an encounter recorded in the eighth chapter of Matthew's Gospel; Jesus, we read, had been traveling through foreign lands when He encountered two fierce, demonic men. Jesus cast out their demons, who straightaway entered into a herd of swine that made for the nearest cliff, plunging over "a steep place into the sea" where they "perished in the waters."
