Representatives of health food manufacturers and retailers have welcomed comments made by Judges of the European Court of Justice concerning the industry's challenge to the legality of the new EU Food Supplements Directive.
From August 1, this 2002 regulation will prohibit the sale of 75% of vitamin and mineral forms currently sold in the European Union market, say the industry groups as, after that date, only nutrients included on a positive list may be sold in the EU. This proposal is disproportionate and in breach of EU law, they add.
