The scene of a 9-year-old girl reading aloud to her father, took on new meaning recently in Naperville.

Only 18 months ago, Richard Garcia heard his daughter, Josselin, speak for the first time, when she called her native Honduras on his birthday and said, "I love you, Papa."

Once described as a "deaf-mute" by health officials in her country, she is making steady progress in speech and reading, with the help of a unique Mount Prospect school and the Naperville family who is hosting her.
