A dramatic increase in usage of the Hams Hall rail-freight facility has helped Associated British Ports post a four per cent rise in profits.

The facility saw a 33 per cent increase in cargo in 2004 from the year before, partly boosted by increased cargo levels from the Far East, said Stephen Burgess, managing director of ABP Connect, which runs the Hams Hall facility in Birmingham.
