ALTHOUGH I have talked about various skin types in this column, including oily skin, I think that acne deserves a column all on its own.
It affects a staggering 75% of all teenagers and young adults at one time of their lives, and less frequently men and women in their 30s and 40s. It can be a most distressing skin condition due to the angry appearance of the spots, and unfortunately this can lead to loss of confidence for many teenagers.
Acne is caused by the overproduction of sebum causing the skin to be excessively oily. Pores become blocked and bacteria then gets trapped causing blackheads, spots and sometimes pustules.
