The broadening of menus at traditional burger chains has created new opportunities for strong niche players. Checkers Drive-In Restaurants--a double-drive-thru concept offering a limited menu, quick service and low prices--is among a handful of rapidly growing burger chains taking fast food back to its roots. For 1992, Checkers projects a 114% increase in systemwide sales to $157 million.
