Feb. 17--About 30 Ready Pac Produce Inc. employees were hard at work Wednesday despite news that their workplace will be shut down in two months.
"People have been happy working here," Richard Gonzales, vice president of manufacturing for the Irwindale-based company, said as he walked around the production lines of the Spreckels plant.
"Some people have been here 20 years, (some) eight years."
His breath visible as small puffs in the facility's frigid air, Gonzales said many of the 110 employees affected by the closure joined Ready Pac at the company's seasonal Salinas plant and later moved over to the Spreckels ...
