A man accused of serial arson in 17 fires at Springfield homes, outbuildings and cars last year was convicted Tuesday on charges that will bring him a 15-year prison term.
David Robert Franz, 29, is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 24.
In a trial by stipulated facts, Lane County Circuit Judge Maurice Merten found Franz guilty of 17 counts of first-degree arson and eight counts of second-degree arson. Franz agreed that the prosecutor could prove the charges in an agreement that ensures the length of his prison term, according to court records.
