The New York City law firm representing the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York will receive $60million if the tribe settles its land claim in exchange for a casino in the Catskills, according to legal documents filed in a related case.

That legal fee and the way it could be paid troubles at least one lawyer representing a traditional band of the Cayugas that is trying to derail the pending land claim agreement with the state.

"A lawyer can't represent a client in a major business deal... and have a side agreement with another party.... You've got a contract here, you represent one side and you do not play footsie with the other side ...
