THE death of the last of three shepherd children to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in 1917, landed on the front pages of the national dailies last February 15.
Sister Lucia de Jesus dos Santos died at an old convent in central Portuguese city of Coimbra which houses the order of the Carmelite nuns. She was 97.

What is of great interest about this nun was, of course, the distinct privilege of experiencing a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary together with her cousins Francisco Marto and his sister Jacinta.
While her cousins both died young, Lucia lived long, spending the rest of her life in the Carmelite convent.
