Feb. 20--At one time or another, almost everyone has been caught with too little money and too many days before the next paycheck.
Spartanburg-based Advance America Cash Advance Centers has built its fortunes on just this dilemma. The company -- the nation's largest payday lender -- opened its first store in November, 1997. Advance America now operates 2,408 stores in 34 states, with plans to open another 400 to 450 locations this year. All of Advance America's stores are company owned and operated, and Advance America oversees the entire operation from its headquarters at the corner of Church and Dunbar streets.
