Feb. 18--From Anchorage to Nome, the mushers, led by their pack of 16 Siberian huskies travel through Alaska with one eye on the ice below them and one on the $68,000 prize in front of them.
It's the famed Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, an intense, more than 1,000-mile run, and some Lower Nazareth Elementary School students are rapidly becoming experts on the topic.
On Thursday afternoon, the group of 16 fifth-graders, part of a five-week after-school writing group, were putting the last touches on a multimedia presentation they'll use next week to teach the rest of the school about the race.
