Feb. 21--KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The city's decision to sell 400 acres near the town's water supply to a cattle rancher has raised fears among many Kirksville residents about the safety of their drinking water.
Since selling the property, Kirksville Mayor Debbie Masten said, she and the other City Council members who supported the sale have faced threats and personal attacks. Someone torched the front of Masten's downtown bar early in the morning on New Year's Day. Residents have formed a committee to force city government to buy the land again.
