PARIS -- It's official. Oscar de la Renta became the Concorde Couturier Monday, when he signed to do couture and ready-to-wear for Pierre Balmain.
"This makes me the first American designer to do Paris couture and that brings me great honor and prestige," de la Renta told WWD in an interview at Balmain headquarters. "But I have carved a worldwide name that will help Balmain. It's a perfect marriage."
The move promotes Oscar into an exclusive club with members like Karl Lagerfeld and Gianfranco Ferre, who juggle multiple collections and multiple allegiances. Oscar will now design four collections a season: his own luxury rtw, which he insists he'll ...
