The pivotal role Ohio played in the 2004 presidential election is well established. What may be less known is the number of presidents who were born in the Buckeye State.
Eight presidents hail from Ohio, more than any other state: William Henry Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft and Warren G. Harding. Seven members of the crew were Republicans; the eighth, William Henry Harrison, was a Whig.
The folks at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland gathered descendants of the presidents for a symposium last fall to discuss the state's history in presidential politics. ...
