In most sports, the biggest event takes place at the end of the season. For example, baseball has the World Series. Football has the Super Bowl. In auto racing, however, the biggest event starts the season. It's the Daytona 500.
The 47th annual Daytona 500 took place February 20 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The race launched the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season. (NASCAR stands for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.)
Many of the best drivers in stock car racing compete for the Nextel Cup title. They include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, and 2004 champion Kurt Busch.
