A pipeline underneath the San Ysidro border into Mexico has become a wealth of knowledge and opportunity for Mexican and American businesses.
In 2000, after seven years of bureaucracy, the cross border pipeline was completed and became the first ever fiber optic link, between the United States and Mexico.
The link enabled Cox Communications San Diego, a full-service telecommunications provider with 534,000 customers in the county, and Cablemas, a Tijuana-based cable company, to transport video and data services from one side of the border to the other.
