Article: Economists warn of rate rise risks.(interest rates, Reserve Bank of Australia)(Brief Article)

Feb 28, 2005 (Herald Sun - ABIX via COMTEX)

Some economists feel that a rise in Australian interest rates would risk a recession. It is expected that the Reserve Bank of Australia will increase interest rates by 0.25 per cent on 2 March 2005. Some economists feel that a rate rise is needed to avert growing inflation. Australia's trade deficit rose again and exports fell in January. New home sales are at a low level but borrowing was still strong. Some economists argue that it would be a mistake to increase interest rates at this point.
