Michael Gray was hired to coach defensive linemen at Oregon on Wednesday, a choice that rings familiar on multiple levels.

Gray, 45, returns to the school where he played on the defensive line for two seasons. He returns to the Pac-10 Conference, where he coached at Oregon State for six years, and he joins a staff that includes two of his fellow assistants from the 1996 St. Louis Rams, UO defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti and offensive line coach Steve Greatwood.
