Researchers at a Belgian research institute have developed a technique for producing porous ceramics with increased mechanical strength.
The researchers--from a ceramic materials group at the Instituut voor de Aanmoediging van Innovatie door Wetenschap en Technologie in Vlaanderen (IWT)--say their process can be used to make strong porous components for catalysts and filtration systems.
Specific products that have been suggested are porous ceramic supports for micro- and ultra-filtration systems, ceramic (hot) gas filters, dust filters, catalyst carriers, and porous ceramics for filtration of molten metals.
