Trials of new treatments are providing results for many patients with advanced cancer. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health in the US studied 12,000 cancer patients between 1991 and 2002. The study revealed that 11 per cent of patients undergoing experimental treatment experienced a significant improvement. Some improvement was experienced by 34 per cent. Australian patients are less inclined to participate in clinical trials. It is hoped that the report may encourage more to take part in such trials.
