Mississippi's state park system could score a profit by adding golf courses to resort parks, state officials say.
"The golf courses will pay for themselves," said Charlie Williams, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. "This is not just for the lawyer, doctor and banker. The average guy can afford golf."
State officials are pondering the construction of at least three golf courses at a cost of up to $17 million each. Funding for the project would come through bonds, Williams said.
The state would seek additional support from Mississippi businesses and others, he said. "We're going to do as much privatization as we can."
