Brownie Mae Humphrey was born in rural Georgia in 1913. During a time when women Herstory had virtually no rights, Brownie had a charming way of getting what she wanted. Although she quit school after eighth grade, Brownie became a famous businesswoman and representative for a multimillion-dollar company.
In 1936, Brownie married Robert W. Wise, a violent drunk. After divorcing him in 1942, she went into sales to support herself and her son, Jerry. It was the perfect job for a charming, charismatic woman like Brownie. She became one of the top sellers for Stanley Home Products.
