Wanda Pitzele just started wearing her tallit, a sacred prayer shawl in the Jewish faith, a few months ago during services at Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin.
The Hanover Park woman says it was a major step for her given that while she was growing up only men wore tallitot at the synagogue. But that changed some years ago and Pitzele finally decided to make one of her own.
"Putting on a tallit is a huge decision. Our daughters don't think twice about it, but we grew up in a different era when only men wore a tallit," Pitzele said. "Adult women didn't grow up that way."
