James Syme, head of emerging market equities of SG Asset Management, and analysts on the AGBP657m UBS Global Emerging Markets fund claimed there was potential for political and consequential economic unrest in Latin America in the lead-up to elections in 2006.

Mr Syme, manager of the AGBP11.1m SGAM Global Emerging Markets fund, said: "We will become more cautious towards the end of 2005 within the fund depending on the elections, which in Latin America have historically been restless and have had negative impact on equity returns.
