Underrated in his lifetime and now largely overlooked, at least in his own country, American painter Kimber Smith (1922-1981) worked on both sides of the Atlantic. A recent exhibition in Wintherthur included 68 of his paintings and works on paper made between 1956 and 1980. This show, which is on view at the Josef Albers Museum in Bottrop, Germany, until Feb. 6, offers the viewer the opportunity to reassess Smith's artistic achievement.
