Fashion audiences in Milan are not used to being startled.
But last September, they found themselves attending a show in an abandoned abattoir, with banks of votive candles and a set that included a heap of dried leaves and a crucifix. The same spectators may be equally startled to discover that the designer behind that unsettling display, Riccardo Tisci, has just been named the new womenswear creative director at Givenchy.
