Mar. 12--CENTER TWP. -- The Beaver County Humane Society, the county's only animal shelter and a center for abuse investigations, is in jeopardy of having to close its doors.
After struggling with various options, the shelter sees no way it can stay at the Center Township location where it has operated virtually rent free for the past 35 years, development director Delbert Lemmon said Wednesday.
A search for a new property has so far come up empty, and a fund-raising consultant said the shelter will have a difficult time raising the money it needs to build a new facility.
