Think of Joan Allen and you're likely to find yourself with serious thoughts.
The 48-year-old actress and three-time Oscar nominee has played a CIA agent (The Bourne Supremacy), a senator(The Contender), a lonely wife (The Ice Storm), a woman caught in a witch hunt (The Crucible) and Pat Nixon (Nixon).
But Allen can paint with a broader brush than such movies suggest. In the upcoming The Upside of Anger, which opens in Denver area theaters Friday, Allen plays a suburban woman who believes that her husband has left her for his voluptuous Swedish secretary.
